The Arts
|
Parents
should not forget to include the Arts (music, art, drama etc.) in their child's curriculum. As
well as providing an outlet for a child's creativity, music, art and drama can
complement other subjects.
For example, there is a strong correlation
between music and stronger math skills, between art and handwriting skills and
between drama and public speaking skills. Participation in the arts is also a good
confidence-builder for children and provides valuable skills for later in life.

DRAMA
| There are limited sources of good Catholic
dramas. As well as the few selections that
follow, we suggest that
children and parents make up their own short plays from the Bible and saint
stories and readers that they use for homeschooling. Hold a special presentation
on feast days alone or with your homeschooling group. Invite grandparents (and
those who doubt the value of homeschooling) to make it an even more
special day.
You should also consider video tape them for "posterity" and use
the opportunity to teach children about filming and video production. Maybe your
child will be the next Mel Gibson! These
presentations are also useful to "bring out" your shy children and build up those who
need confidence.
